What is Eczema?

eczema body What is Eczema?Eczema is an inflammation of the skin and is a form of dermatitis and is characterized by dry, red, scaly skin that often itches uncontrollably, and is mainly found of the flexor joints of the body such as the elbows, wrists, and knees. In severe cases the skin can be blistered, flake off, bleed or ooze with pus. Scarring does not often take place as a result of eczema but most sufferers do notice skin discolorations due to healed lesions.

There is no exact cause for eczema, although it is a genetic disease. However, it is thought that eczema occurs as a result of the body overreacting to an unknown trigger. Some people have their eczema flare up when it is too hot or too cold, others when they use a particular soap or detergent. Allergies and stress can cause eczema to become worse.

What are Cold Sores

coldsore What are Cold SoresThis is seen as an infection around the lips, most often the upper lip in a small patch of little blisters. It can also appear on the face and mouth. It is caused by the Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).  Cold sores are also called fever blisters.  The skin in the area around the blisters is red and sore. Usually the blisters break open and discharge a clear fluid. After a few days a scab will form and will take up to several days and may be a fortnight to heal. No medication is actually needed and it heals by itself. The two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2 can both cause the blisters to form, and can also cause genital herpes.

The virus usually enters through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It usually is spread from another person who is already infected by contact or use of eating utensils, razors etc. that come in contact when a person touches a cold sore or  personal contact such as kissing. A child can get this from an infected parent in this manner.  These cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body. Some people who may have the virus but don’t get cold sores show no symptoms at all.
