HSV-1 often causes the lesions to appear inside the mouth, such as cold sores or even infection of the eyes. They are also called fever blisters as a slight raise in body temperature is felt before it appears in very small blisters. These blisters break to discharge a clear liquid and after a day or so get crusted up and heal on its own within two weeks. They can cause embarrassment and pain.

The treatment includes ointments, skin creams and pills but these only ease up on the pain.  Cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus cannot be cured according to most medical studies.
