Treatment for TMJ

dental tmj treatment Treatment for TMJWhat is TMJ? TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint disorder, which is also abbreviated to TMJD, TMD, TMJ or TMJ syndrome. It is the name given to a variety of conditions that involve the chronic or acute inflammation of the body’s temporomandibular joint, which is the joint connecting the mandible and the skull. The disorder can cause impairment and significant pain.

TMJ is caused by trauma, aging, disease, bad habits as well as some disorders. Trauma such as grinding the teeth and clenching the jaw too much can result in TMJ. Teeth grinding, once it becomes a habit, is known as bruxism, which results in muscle spasm, and can initiate TMJ. Osteoarthritis of the jaw bone and degenerative joint disease can both cause the wearing away of cartilage as a person ages, which can contribute to TMJ. Similarly, rheumatoid arthritis causes inflammation of the joints, which can lead to TMJ.

The most common symptoms of TMJ usually revolve around the same components. Pain in the facial muscles that reaches the shoulders and neck is a symptom. Muscle spasms may also be experienced, which make swallowing difficult. Pain may be felt when yawning, chewing or talking. TMJ may cause ear pain, hearing difficulties and a ringing in the ears. When joints move, sounds such as clicking, grating and popping, may be heard. The affected side of the face and mouth may swell. The jaw might be dislocated, or you might have trouble opening it.

TMJ is diagnosed by performing a battery of tests by a physician. The patient’s jaw will be examined for tenderness and pain. The physician will usually listen to the joint for any noises, measure how far the jaw can open, and check the patient’s bite and teeth alignment. X-rays of the joints will be taken in order to see the bones around the teeth, and see if there are any other structural problems. Sometimes CT scans and MRIs are ordered to view the bones in more detail, including the soft tissue and discs.

The treatment for TMJ is pain relief to provide an immediate solution to the pain. Then the underlying causes are treated. Conventional painkillers are too mild for TMJ pain, so more strong medications are given. A long term solution to TMJ usually involves trying to get rid of any traumatic jaw habits such as clenching and teeth grinding. This is tried out before medications and surgery is considered.

The TMJ help program guarantees an end to TMJ through an all natural, inexpensive method that has proven effective for many sufferers.

Candida yeasts are normally found in the human body anyway, but their growth is limited by our immune system. Certain things can cause candida cells to overgrow. Pregnancy and the use of oral contraceptives can be risk factors. Thos suffering from diabetes or using antibiotics are also at risk.

Yeast infections can be superficial ones such as oral thrush and vaginitis but can also be systemic infections which are more problematic because they are not just on the outside of the body, and affect other important organs, which can be life threatening. Those who suffer from systemic infections are usually those who have a weakened immune system, such as cancer, HIV/AIDS or transplant patients. Most infections cause some discomfort such as itchiness and swelling, but can get worse if left untreated.
